Alexandria, VA – The International Bottled Water Association’s consumer website www.bottledwatermatters.com has launched a new video on the bottled water industry’s corporate social responsibility on environmental issues.

In this video, titled “Bottled Water’s Environmental Corporate Social Responsibility,”
an intrepid teenage reporter asks bottled water industry executives about their concern for the environment and what their companies are doing to specifically meet their social responsibility as corporations. Her probing questions reveal a young teen’s desire to make Earth a better place. And the answers she receives from representatives from Sparkletts, Nestle Waters North America, Absopure Water Co. and Eastman Chemical Co. reveal a wide range of corporate initiatives, including conversion to hybrid trucks, light-weighting of plastic bottles, building LEED-certified bottling facilities, extensive efforts to recycle on a large scale, and adoption of new technologies that make producing PET plastics more energy efficiency.

“In conversational discussions, IBWA members explain their companies’ environmental initiatives in a way that we all can understand how the bottled water industry is making a difference,” said Tom Lauria, IBWA Vice President of Communications. “In fact, many U.S. companies are doing a number of the same things. Here, the important, diverse and simultaneous environmental initiatives being conducted by IBWA members, seen as a total package, are intended to achieve significant and measureable results.”

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters. Founded in 1958, IBWA's membership includes U.S. and international bottlers, distributors and suppliers. IBWA is committed to working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, and state governments to set stringent standards for safe, high quality bottled water products. In addition to FDA and state regulations, the Association requires member bottlers to adhere to the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, which mandates additional standards and practices that in some cases are more stringent than federal and state regulations. A key feature of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice is an annual plant inspection by an independent, third party organization. Consumers can contact IBWA at 1-800-WATER-11 or log onto IBWA's web site (www.bottledwater.org) for more information about bottled water and a list of members' brands.
